Planning to take your fur baby for a little staycation? Whether you’re a first time pet parent or an old one, going on holiday with them is much easier than it’s ever been. Many more hotels and resorts allow pets to board with their humans.

Of course, you want to make sure that a good time is had by all, so depending on where you go or stay, some thoughtful preparation is in order.
Here are some of our tried and tested tips.
1. Bring a crate/carrier

If you can’t guarantee that they won’t slip out when you leave them for a few moments, a crate or carrier is your best bet. Leaving them in an unfamiliar place or room can cause our fur babies to panic and try to follow you when you go. Another option is a foldable fence (that they can’t climb over) which you can place in the room so they have more room to move in.
These also come in handy in the evenings when you’re not sure if your four-legged baby has an itch to go exploring when you’re fast asleep.
2. Pack their essentials

Aside from their food, bowls, and treats, there might be other items that are “must-brings.” Often, these bring comfort and familiarity to a new place so don’t forget to pack their favourite toys and warm blankie.
It’s also important to have medicines on hand that can help with minor gastrointestinal issues (check in with your vet for probiotics).
3. Find the nearest vet

Depending on where you are, it’s always good to know the location (and number) of the nearest vet in case of an emergency.
From our experience, there are possible run-ins with wild animals and insects or accidental ingestion of foreign objects. For your own peace of mind, have a nearby vet handy, know their hours of operation, and even a backup vet just in case.
4. Don’t let them drink from communal bowls

Some places are extremely pet friendly and would leave out a water bowl for your dogs. However, many diseases are transmitted through saliva so it’s best to bring a travel or collapsible bowl instead.
5. Wash and inspect their paws after every nature romp
